For Aidan Marmarato, Hudson Catholic has always been home. As an eighth grader, Aidan and his family did an extensive search of schools in the area and determined that Hudson Catholic was the perfect fit. The Jersey City private high school checked off all the boxes the family was searching for, top flight academics, excellent athletic programs, and most importantly, the opportunity to make a splash as an individual. “I’ve always felt comfortable at Hudson Catholic,” says Marmorato. “It may have taken me a while to step into my own, but the adjustment was smooth.”
Now headed to NYU’s prestigious Stern School of Business on a full academic scholarship, the student council president has added yet another award to his trophy case having been selected to receive St. Peter’s College’s Shanahan Medal. The Shanahan Medal is awarded to the graduate in the Associate Degree Program in the School of Professional Studies with the highest general average throughout their college career. As a member of Hudson Catholic’s Dual Enrollment Program, Aidan has been taking college courses at St. Peter’s College for the past three years. The award recognizes his hard work in college courses that Aidan took alongside college-aged students. The program also allowed Aidan to be on campus for the excitement of the Sweet 16 run last year, where a picture of him and his other Hudson Catholic friends became widely circulated. “St Peter’s has definitely helped me get ready for college life, he said . “I’ve been going to school with college kids for two years and I feel like we (my friends and I) go there.”
Back on Hudson Catholic’s campus, Aidan has made his presence known through his work as Student Council President and his work in the Hawk Drama Society. This year, the Student Council focused its work on charity raising money for several organizations through fundraising. From toy drives and food pantries, to local organizations like Women’s Rising and well known organizations like Jump for Heart, the student council made its presence known.
Next week Aidan will star alongside his castmates as Billy Flynn in the school’s presentation of “Chicago” (May 18-21st, tickets now on sale). Earlier this fall, Aidan had a hilarious turn as Lenny Ganz in Neil Simon’s “Rumors.” For Aidan, working with the drama society, under the direction of Assistant Principal and Theater Director Mrs. Sarah Barbi, has been a labor of love. Aidan first got into theater at age 8, but stopped performing thereafter. Now back and staring in shows has brought something back for him. Aidan started acting at age 8, but took a break at the beginning of high school. “It has definitely Re-cultivated my passion for theater. My love for theater has come back strong,” he says. He promises that Chicago is something you won’t want to miss! “We’ve worked really hard on this each and every day to make it the best possible show and you won’t want to miss it.”
“Chicago” runs from May 18-21st at The Jack Campion Stage at Hudson Catholic High School. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.hudsoncatholic.org
