Jersey City- Katria Stewart ’15 has been named the new head girls volleyball coach at Hudson Catholic Regional High School. Stewart becomes just the second head coach in the school’s history, replacing Fernando Colon who was recently named head coach at Bloomfield College. Stewart brings over ten years of experience playing and coaching, and most recently was assistant head coach under Colon this past season.
“I’m excited to be back at Hudson Catholic and grateful for the opportunity to continue this great program. I have high expectations for the volleyball team and I am ready to continue the success the team has had over the years,” said Stewart.
While at Hudson Catholic, Stewart was named HCIAL Player of the year, was twice an All- County player and a 2nd team all-state player. Stewart was the first female student from Hudson Catholic to earn a Division 1 scholarship and still holds many individual records at the school, including most kills in one season. After Hudson Catholic, Stewart went on to star at UNC Charlotte where she played right side attacker and was a member of the Student Athlete Athletic Committee and the Pre-Law Society.
Stewart’s prior coaching experience includes two years (2019 & 2020) as coach of the 16U National Team for Carolina Juniors Volleyball Club, and the coach of 16/17U Ignite Volleyball Club in 2018. In addition, Coach Stewart was named the 2019 Conference Coach of the Year in her position as Head Coach at Central Cabarrus High School in Concord, North Carolina.
Coach Colon leaves behind a legacy of over 300 wins, two state titles and countless sectional titles. Although he will be coaching at Bloomfield College, he will stay on at the school in his role as tuition manager. “I’m proud of Katria and all her success and really happy that she is getting this opportunity,” said Colon, who coached Stewart as a student. “Under her the program will continue the tradition of success. They are in great hands.”
We are excited to welcome Katria Stewart back to the Hawks Nest.
