Over the past year, the world has seen an upheaval of every facet of life. Through this time, nothing has been more important than helping your neighbors. As a Catholic High School, Hudson Catholic has taken that to heart by partnering with St. Peter’s University’s Campus Kitchen. Each week, under the guidance of Theology teacher Mr. James Falconer, Hudson Catholic students have volunteered to help out at the Campus Kitchen. Since 2014, St. Peter’s University has had one of 63 Campus Kitchens in the United States. Housed at St. Aedan’s Church, the goal of the kitchen is to feed the hungry right here in Jersey City.
Hudson Catholic students have helped out by preparing meals, setting up the pantry, and also donating money to shop for food. During Catholic Schools Week, Hudson Catholic students each donated $2 to the campus food kitchen to buy meals. “When they go over they help out a little and get a chance to see HOW CK feeds hundreds of locals in Jersey City every week,” said Mr. Falconer. “The students who visit get an understanding of, for example, how the $2 they paid on a tag day goes to help feed someone local who is in need. They get to understand the links in the chain.”
In addition to the kitchen, St. Peter’s also has a clothes closet where they take donated clothing items and toiletries and give them to those in need. We are proud of our students’ commitment to service throughout the Pandemic. Any student who is still looking to get involved (whether they are virtual students or in person) may do so.
