Sophomores Annalise de Leon, Adriana Hernandez, Darrin Allen, and Saniyah Duke have each been accepted into the Art Harper Saturday Academy at Stevens Institute of Technology this week. Both young ladies were among only 20 students accepted into the program. They will spend ten Saturdays this year on the campus of Stevens, earning college credits. Students were chosen based on their academic records and teacher recommendations.
The Art Harper Saturday Academy, which began in Fall 2019, is a multi-year program for high school students from under-resourced communities who are interested in pursuing college majors and careers in STEM related fields. The students will participate in a math course, a project design course, and college prep workshops. In addition, students will gain exposure to various STEM careers and majors, and be provided with learning opportunities that apply their classroom knowledge to find solutions to real-world problems.
The Art Harper Academy is just one of five college programs offered at Hudson Catholic. HC students can take courses at St. Peter's University, Stevens, NJCU, or St. John's University for college credit.
