JERSEY CITY- This week fans of NBC’s Tuesday night lineup will have a chance to spot a current Hudson Catholic student, junior Elijah Richardson. Richardson begins his three episode arc on “New Amsterdam,” a hospital drama, in the episode titled “King of Swords.” Richardson plays Avi, a teenage patient in the hospital. He will return for two more episodes later in the season. This represents a great opportunity but also the result of hard work For Richardson, who has been acting since age 5.
Richardson received his SAG card at age 7 and has been doing commercials and TV work ever since. Viewers might recognize him from national I-Phone ads. “It has taught me a lot,” Richardson says of his acting chops. “It taught me not just about acting, but how to deal with other situations in life.”
A Jersey City native, Richardson graduated from nearby Golden Door Charter School before attending Hudson Catholic. He chose HC in part because he felt it would prepare him for the future. “Hudson Catholic has been preparing me for the long run,” he said. “I still want to enjoy myself, be a teenager. I chose Hudson Catholic because I didn’t want to go to an all-boys school for 4 years and I felt like Hudson Catholic would allow me to socialize with everyone. Even the teachers have a close connection with the students.” Richardson adds that he still aspires to attend college, hopefully at a school with a good acting program such as UCLA or NYU.
Watch New Amsterdam Tuesday nights at 10pm EST on NBC.
