Senior Courtney Johnson won 4 Gold medals in the two day State Sectionals at Randolph High School this past Memorial Day Weekend. He started on Friday winning the 400 meter hurdles in 55.80 and then the 400 meters in 50.70. On the second day of competition, running from the unseeded heat, Courtney won the 200 meters in 23.36 and then ended the meet by winning the 4×400 meter relay. The relay team of Courtney Johnson in 51.24, Tsulu Scrivens in a personal best 53.29, Will Sparks-Newsome in 53.43 and Devon Coleman in a personal best time of 55.16 finished with a team time of 3:33.12.
Senior Nautica Smith, who is Cornell University bound, was 2nd overall in the javelin and her throw of 108’1″ breaks her own school record and qualifies her for the Nationals in North Carolina in June. In the 100 meters, Ryan Webb was 1st to win her first State Sectional title in the 100 meters in 12.92 (12.79 in the prelims). In the 4×100 meter relay, the team of Ryan Webb, Janae Van Burch, Violeta Sanders and Anan Belel ran 51.93 to take 2nd overall and break the school record in the event. In the 1600 meters, Weeshamar Senatus was 3rd in 5:15.89. In the discus, Nautica Smith was 6th with a throw of 78’3″. In the 200 meters, Ryan Webb was 5th overall in 27.17. In the 4×400 meter relay, Janae Van Burch, Ryan Webb, Anan Belel and Violeta Sanders ran 4:35.61 for 6th place overall.
In the discus, Yasmeen McDonald threw 57’1″ and in the javelin threw 65’5″. In the 400 meters, Janae Van Burch ran 65.93 for 10th place overall. In the 100 meters, Anan Belel was 10th in 13.53. Devon Coleman was also 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.98 and 5th in the 400 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 62.32. In the 4×800 meter relay, Devon Coleman, Mouloukou Bangoura, Bryant Delacruz and Claude Bamba was 4th. In the 400 meters, Tsulu Scrivens was 6th in 54.69. In the 200 meters, Will Sparks-Newsome was 8th in 24.31 and Tsulu Scrivens was 9th in 24.36.
