Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

Dear Members of the Hudson Catholic Regional High School Family,

It is with great pride and joy that I extend our warmest wishes for a very Merry Christmas to all of our extended Hudson Catholic family. We have had a marvelous beginning to our school year. We have a terrific freshmen class of 136 students who are acclimating very well to high school both academically and socially. We were also able to add a number of fine students to our sophomore and junior classes this year. Our enrollment at this time is 496. Last year at this time we had 478 students. This is a significant increase and Mr. Mihalik reports that we have had an increasing number of inquiries about Hudson Catholic this year as well.

We have already had a large number of acceptances to colleges for our senior class and look forward to hearing from more colleges early in 2018. We strive every year to have 100% of our students accepted to college and it appears that this will continue this year. Some of the acceptances the students have received already have significant scholarships and grants included in those acceptances.

We have added several new co-curricular clubs and activities this year that increases the number of students participating in after-school activities. The faculty club advisors are also looking fo additional members to some of our clubs. We have started a new Hudson Catholic Choir which is being led by Mr. Matthew Beams, who also serves as a teacher at Primary Prep where he has taught some of our students. They have sung at our last Mass and will be involved in all of our liturgical and prayer services.

Mr. Robert Astudillo, ‘06, is serving as Department Chairperson for Fine and Performing Arts and Media Production. We have received several donations this year of equipment that has allowed us to build a very high-tech television studio on the third floor. Mr. Astudillo is teaching several production and media classes that utilize the studio. Look for the article in the newsletter about our studio.

Our fall sports teams represented the school very well with several teams taking home championships. The football team was undefeated in their division for the second straight year. The girls’ volleyball team repeated as County Champions for the third straight year and won their second straight NJSIAA Sectional Championship. Boys’ soccer made it to the NJSIAA semifinals with a very young team. Weeshamar Senatus repeated as Hudson County Cross Country Champion. It was truly a fine fall season.

Most importantly, we are continuing with our faith formation activities including the Advent Prayer Services that we conduct each day during Advent. We have conducted several Liturgies including the Freshmen Student/Parent Mass as well our opening Mass for the school year. We very much appreciate that Father Larry Evans and Father Rocco Danzi have given their time for our students and staff.

Please have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy your time together as a family.

St. John Baptiste de La Salle…………pray for us.

Live Jesus in our hearts………..forever!
