April 1, 2017 – The Metuchen Relays at Metuchen High School saw the Hawks enter two relays with 1st place results. In the Girl’s Sprint Relay, Ryan Webb (27.59), Anan Belel (28.06) for the 200-meter legs, Janae Van Burch on the 400-meter leg (65.48) and Weeshamar Senatus (2:25.42) on the 800-meter anchor leg ran 4:25.42 for 1st place on the small school’ division and placed 2nd overall in the meet and #4 in New Jersey so far this season. Not to outdone, the Boys’ came back in the 800-meter Super Medley relay with a combined time of 1:38.56 to also take 1st place in the small schools division and #2 overall in the meet. Their time is also #2 in New Jersey this season. They just missed qualifying for the Nationals by 1:06 second which they will are very likely achieve in the future. The team of Tsulu Scrivens (12.20) and Sam Opaleye (11.88) for the 100-meter legs, Will Sparks-Newsome in 23.78 on the 200-meter leg and Courtney Johnson running 50.70 for the 400-meter leg ran 1:38.56.
In the girls’ javelin, Nautica Smith was 1st in the small schools division with a throw of 88’6″ which is #12 in New Jersey and #1 in Non-Public B. She also threw the discus, 58’7″. In the Varsity 400-meters, Modesty Griffith was 10th overall in 68.58.
In the boys 400-meter intermediate hurdles, Courtney Johnson ran 62.54, Syan Brathwaite ran a personal best time of 64.79 and Devon Coleman after falling ran 78.90. In the 110-meter high hurdles, Devon Coleman came back with a personal best time of 17.41 which is #16 in New Jersey and Syan Brathwaite ran 17.82 for #20 in New Jersey also a personal best time. They are #1 and #2 in Non-Public B. Sam Opaleye jumped 5’10” in the high jump for 10th overall. Mouloukou Bangoura ran 58.26 in the 400-meters.
