Transportation Reimbursement
Because of the school’s proximity to the Journal Square PATH station (a 3 ½ block walk), New Jersey Transit train service, PATH service and various bus routes are convenient to Hudson Catholic Regional High School students. In addition, several bus lines include the corners of Montgomery Street and Bergen Avenue as regular stops, while the #10 (Kennedy Boulevard) bus stops down the block on the corner of Montgomery Street and Kennedy Boulevard, in front of St. Peter’s College.
According to state law, towns/cities which provide busing for their own public school students must also do so for its citizens who attend private school, unless there are so few students from the town that no bus contractor will take the job. In that case, towns/cities must provide reimbursement to such students for their transportation. The amount reimbursed is approximately $700 (a figure that has remained quite consistent, so use it as a guide.). In the case of Jersey City, the Board of Education sets the minimum distance required for reimbursement.
In all cases, it is the responsibility of the student’s parent/guardian to contact the local Board of Education directly and request the forms.
Towns that, to our knowledge, currently provide reimbursement:
Basking Ridge, Belleville, Berkeley Heights, Caldwell, Carteret, Cedar Grove, Chatham, Clark, Clifton, Cranford, Edison, Elizabeth, Fairfield, Glen Ridge, Iselin, Jersey City, Linden, Little Falls, Livingston, Madison, Maplewood, Montclair, Moonachie, Morristown, Newark, North Bergen, Paterson, Plainfield, Pompton Plains, Roseland, Scotch Plains, Secaucus, Short Hills, Springfield, Totowa, Union, Warren, Wayne, West Caldwell, Westfield, West Orange, West Paterson, Whippany, Woodbridge.
If your town or city does not appear on this list, we recommend that you contact your local Board of Education and ask.
